Principal Business Officer

The South African Medical Association (SAMA) is seeking to appoint a Principal Business Officer in the Private Practice Department.

Job Purpose:

Working together with the Head of the Private Practice Department to ensure effective implementation of the department’s strategy at an operational level. The Principal Business Officer maintains and expands relationships with strategically important partners. Principal Business Officer is responsible for achieving requisite engagements and assigned strategic account objectives. The Principal Business Officer represents the entire range of company initiatives and services to assigned partners, while leading the partner account planning cycle and ensuring assigned partner’s needs and expectations are met by the company. In conjunction with the PPD Head and committees identify new business initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

Project Management & Implementation:
• Create and Identify new business opportunities.
• Ensures effective control and execution of all Private Practice Department projects and initiatives.
• Establishes productive, mutually beneficial professional relationships with key personnel in assigned partner accounts.
• Meets assigned targets for profitable engagements and strategic objectives in assigned partner accounts.
• Proactively leads a joint company-strategic account planning process that develops mutual performance objectives, financial targets, and critical milestones.
• Proactively assesses, clarifies, and validates partner needs on an ongoing basis.
• Proactively looks out for opportunities where the company can leverage its relationship with strategic partners to enhance the position of members and the department.
• Researches and supports solution development efforts that best address partner needs.
Relationship Management:

• Builds relationships and ensure that the Private Practice Department objectives are achieved effectively at branch level through structured engagements.
• Develops relationships with key external stakeholders in all components of the private health care market in order to achieve the set objectives and targets for the department.
• With the Head of Department closely coordinates company executive involvement with partner engagement.
• Works closely with Marketing and Communications Department to ensure customer satisfaction and problem resolution.
• Liaise with Membership Department to address relationship issues as they arise.

Marketing & Recruitment:

• Directs the Marketing Officer in identifying marketing initiatives aimed at private practice members which will result in the recruitment and retention of this sector.
• Achieves set recruitment targets according to the objectives of the department.
• Achieves assigned productive engagements in designated strategic accounts.
• Meets assigned expectations for profitable engagements.
• Achieves Principal Business Officer objectives defined by company management.
• Completes Principal Business Officer objectives account plans that meet PPD standards.
• Maintains high customer satisfaction ratings that meet PPD standards.

Operations:

• Represents SAMA at healthcare industry conferences, forums and meetings across the country.
• Prepares and execute formal presentations where required.
• Assists in the design of new products, initiatives or projects in order to assist in developing SAMA’s value proposition.
• Assists in Ad hoc projects; initiatives and tasks as assigned by the Department Head.

Administration:
• Ensures that all administrative functions relating to the position are completed and accurate at all times.
• Stays up to date with the private health care market in order to identify and predict conditions that may affect the Private Practice Department strategy.
• Prepares opinion pieces for educating the wider public on specific topics as and when required

Legislation Contract:
• Compiles well researched submissions to SAMA and its structures and provide legal inputs and guidance to PPD management on an ongoing basis.
• With the assistance of the Legal department, provide advice on the interpretation of existing and proposed legislation, and draft and prepare submissions on behalf of SAMA to Parliament, Government Departments and other statutory bodies on proposed legislation, regulations, policy documents and other legal notices.
• Develops and drafts policies and guidelines, in conjunction with the SAMA structures, relevant to the medico-legal field on an ongoing basis.
• Makes presentations at seminars and events to educate and inform SAMA membership in respect of PPD issues.
Job Requirements:

LLB/ Medical/Business Management
• Business related qualification
• Financial related qualification

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Competencies Required:

• 5 – 8 Years Medical industry expertise
• 2 – 3 Years contracts experience
• Financial related qualification
• 5 – 8 Years Medical industry expertise

Term: Permanent
